Planning Your Garden: Free Downloadable Spreadsheet

Comprehensive Guide

Planning your garden can be an exciting yet daunting task, especially if you want to ensure a bountiful harvest and a beautiful landscape. To help you organize your thoughts and plans, I've created a comprehensive garden planning spreadsheet for 2024, which you can download and use for your own garden planning.

Garden Planning Spreadsheet Overview:

The spreadsheet includes essential details for each plant variety you plan to grow, such as:

  • Seeds: The name of the seeds you plan to use.
  • Seed Amount: The amount of seeds you'll need for planting.
  • Type: Whether the plant is a flower (F), vegetable (V), herb (H), or other.
  • Sow Date: The date you plan to sow the seeds.
  • Zone: The USDA hardiness zone for your location.
  • Height: The expected height of the mature plant.
  • Spacing: The recommended spacing between plants.
  • Watering: The plant's watering needs.
  • Perennial/Annual: Whether the plant is perennial (P) or annual (A).
  • Sunlight: The plant's sunlight requirements (FS for full sun, PS for partial sun, and SS for shade).
  • Soil: The type of soil the plant prefers.
  • Location: Where you plan to plant the seeds.
  • Source: Where you obtained the seeds.
  • Price: The cost of the seeds or plant.
  • Deer Resist: Whether the plant is deer-resistant (can substitute your particular pest) (Y/N).

How to Use the Spreadsheet:

Additional Tips for Garden Planning:

  • Consider Your Climate: Choose plants that are well-suited to your climate and hardiness zone.
  • Companion Planting: Take advantage of companion planting to maximize plant health and yield.
  • Succession Planting: Plan for succession planting to ensure a continuous harvest throughout the season.
  • Crop Rotation: Rotate your crops each year to prevent soil depletion and pest problems.
